Merciful Harbinger of Avasha

Though the priests of Avasha are renowned for their kindness and compassion, they are far from passive. Wherever despair and pain grip the innocent, Avasha turns her attention, and so to do her clergy. Most famous among those dedicated to the easing of suffering and the spread of peace are the Merciful Harbingers, the living incarnation of mercy and life. Paradoxically, many of the Merciful Order become among the more grim Avashans, for they have seen more than their share of suffering across the Shards. Still, their very presence kindles hope in the hearts of the dying

Though not so book-learned as many of the Golden Temple, the Merciful Harbingers become living embodiments of the goddess and her will. Their missions often force them to travel to out of the way places that are hard to reach by conventional means. Lands in the aftermath of war, famine-struck regions, plague infested regions, and suchlike are all places that may be visited by Harbingers, no matter how desolate or remote the shard.

Frequently, Harbingers come into contact with demons, devils, and other beings of the splinter realms; unlike the devouring beneath, they are often entranced by human suffering and woe, which they are incapable of understanding. When these creatures gain a foothold in the True Creation, Merciful Harbingers often cross their path as they seek to aid those who have suffered under their fiendish attentions.

Harbingers generally do not operate in groups, as it spreads the goddess’ power too thin in other places. Very rarely, a source of despair or suffering such as a plague or Rising will become known to the Merciful Order, and groups of Harbingers will be deployed to deal with the situation. Over time, some Harbingers become loners after seeing too much horror and death. They continue upon the path of the Harbinger, quietly entering places in need, then disappearing when they have done what they can.

Divine Servant of the Goddess, +1 caster level

Avasha's Touch (Sup): At will, any weapon you wield deals subdual damage instead of normal damage. The critical range for this weapon increases by one point, and the critical multiplier for the weapon increases by one when striking to inflict subdual damage. For every two levels gained in Merciful Harbinger, any weapon used to subdue by you is treated as a cumulative +1 weapon for purposes of overcoming Damage Reduction. This is a supernatural effect.

+1 caster level: The Merciful Harbinger continues to grow in the ways of the Goddess. When a new level of Merciful Harbinger is gained, her spells per day increase as if she had gained another level in her original divine spell casting class. The levels of Merciful Harbinger also combine with other divine class levels for determining spell effects.

We Are All One Flesh (Sup): At 2nd level, for a number of rounds equal to half their class level plus the Harbinger’s Charisma bonus, the Harbinger can cause those who wound them to take the wounds they inflict upon the attacker. For each physical attack, the attacker must make a Will check against DC 10 + ˝ class level + Charisma modifier, or else suffer the same physical damage as the Harbinger. The attacker likewise suffers any disease, poison, or other harmful effect that is inflicted along with hit point damage, even if the attacker is normally immune to such attacks. This is a supernatural ability.

Immaculate Hope (EXT): At 2nd level, the Harbinger gains the Divine Cleansing feat (DotF, p. 19). This allows the Harbinger to spend one of their turning attempts in order to give all allies within 60 feet (including the Harbinger) +2 sacred bonus to Fortitude checks for a number of minutes equal to the Harbinger’s Charisma bonus.

Extra Domain: The Harbinger gains access to another of Avasha’s domains (Good, Healing, Plant, or the Missionary Domain). She can use the granted power of the domain, and can choose from the spell lists of three domains when selecting her domain spells for the day. She can only cast one domain spell of each level per day.

Swift Aid (EXT): At 4th level, the Harbinger gains the Divine Vigor feat. This allows the Harbinger to use one of their Turning attempts to increase their base speed by 10 feet per round, and gain a +2 enhancement bonus to Constitution. This lasts a number of minutes equal to your Charisma modifier.

Most High (EXT): After completing many missions of mercy in Avasha’s name, the Merciful Harbinger gains great esteem among the Golden Temple. They can call upon Temple funds to assist in their crusade of hope, and freely requisition healing supplies, holy water and healing potions from Temples they pass through. Other Harbingers of less experience may be placed under their tutelage, and they may lead them on a mission against a great source of woe. Merciful Harbingers with such esteem are often looked to as leaders in trying times, as their experiences are much more worldly than those of the typical temple priest. Lesser priests never doubt the word of a Most High Harbinger. This is an Extraordinary ability. Additionally, the Harbinger gains the feats Skill Focus: Diplomacy, and Skill Focus: Heal. Should a Harbinger ever fall from grace and require atonement, they lose all the benefits of Most High, except for the Skill Foci.

Aura of Hope (SUP): At 6th level, the Harbinger gives off an aura of hope, granting all allies within 20 feet a +4 morale bonus to checks against fear based effects.

Potent Mercy (EXT): At 7th level, the Harbinger may make use of the Reach Spell metamagic feat on all spells of the Healing domain. This does not increase the level of the spell. The Reach Spell metamagic feat allows the Harbinger to cast spells with a range of ‘Touch’ at any distance of up to 30’. The spell effectively becomes a ray, so you must succeed at a ranged touch attack to bestow the spell upon the recipient. This is an Extraordinary ability.

Blessing of the Martyr (SUP): Many Harbingers have passed into sainthood through use of this ability. It allows a member of the Merciful Order to use any of the following feats with spells of the Healing Domain at a price. The feats Delay Spell, Empower, Enlarge, Maximize, and Repeat Spell can be used with Healing domain spells. However, for each spell level increase incurred by using a metamagic feat in this way, the cleric must take 1d6 damage. Thus, to cast a Maximized Cure Critical Wounds spell, the Harbinger would have to take 3d6 damage to himself. Spells modified with the feats gained through this ability cannot be used to heal the Harbinger.

Avasha’s Gift Rescinded (SUP): At 9th level, the Harbinger can once per week pronounce judgment upon those without mercy or pity and repeal all the healing their body has ever undergone, instantly reducing the condemned to a corpse. This duplicates the effects of the spell Slay Living, but with a range of 30 feet. The target must make a Will save against a Difficulty of 30. Creatures that can regenerate are rendered ‘dead’ if they fail, but may regain hit points as if they were at –10 hit points. This power can only be used against those who are unrepentant in their desire to cause harm and suffering to others, and if its use it attempted against an innocent being (such as one possessed, etc.) it fails and the Harbinger loses all divine abilities until such time as they can atone for their misdeed.
